Climatic limits for the present distribution of beech (Fagus L.) species in the world

چکیده
Methods In total, 292 lower/southern limit and 310 upper/northern limit sites with available climatic data for all 11 extant beech species were collected by reviewing the literature, and 13 climatic variables were estimated for each site from climate normals at nearby stations. We used principal components analysis (PCA) to detect climatic variables most strongly associated with the distribution of beech species and to compare the climatic spaces for the different beech species.

Investigating the Effect of Topographic factors on the distribution of oriental beech in Hyrcanian forest, Iran
Studying the present and future distribution status of important forest species is a prerequisite for the need of conservation programs in order to play their undeniable role in tackling global climate change, land use change and air pollution. The purpose of this study was to determine the distribution of oriental beech (Fagus orientalis Lipsky) in forests of northern Iran under the influence ...
متن کاملA water budget approach to predicting tree species growth and abundance, utilizing paleoclimatology sources
Biogeographers and ecologists often need to quantify species-environment relationships to understand the distribution of vegetation, and to assess changes in patterns resulting from environmental change. A water budget approach, which incorporates evaporative demand and moisture availability, is compared to traditional climatic variables in terms of ability to predict species growth and abundan...
متن کاملSensitivity of Beech Trees to Global Environmental Changes at Most North-Eastern Latitude of Their Occurrence in Europe
The present study aimed to detect sensitivity of beech trees (Fagus sylvatica L.) to meteorological parameters and air pollution by acidifying species as well as to surface ozone outside their north-eastern distribution range. Data set since 1981 of Preila EMEP station enabled to establish that hot Summers, cold dormant, and dry and cold first-half of vegetation periods resulted in beech tree g...
متن کاملGrowing evidence for the existence of glacial refugia of European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) in the south-eastern Alps and north-western Dinaric Alps
Background and Purpose: It is widely accepted that south-European peninsulas were major refugial areas from where European beech, Fagus sylvatica L., spread to the rest of Europe in the Holocene. The aim of this paper is to review and evaluate all the available data and present different types of evidence, some of them new or overlooked until now, to support the hypothesis on the existence of g...
متن کاملPlant Biodiversity under Impact of Slope Position in Managed and Unmanaged Beech Forest of Asalem-Gilan
This study was carried out in managed and unmanaged Fagus orientalis L. (beech) stands in the Asalem beech forest in order to compare the composition and diversity of plant species. Three V-shaped catena landforms were selected for each stand. Then, large quadrats, 400 m2 area, with selective method and within each of them, small quadrats, 4 m2 area, were established along each catena and slope...
